EXPERIENCE
2003 - 2009: Repaired homes and managed small ranch activities in Rainsville, NM. Performed some self-employed fine art and commercial sign painting. Developed the ELApro.net web portal. Volunteered in set design and construction for the Sandia High School Continentals show choir. Prepared, through self-study, for teaching secondary science and mathematics, with an emphasis on the history of math and science. Passed the New Mexico Teacher Assessments Science Content Knowledge exam. Obtained New Mexico 7-12 Secondary Pre-level 1 Internship License (#324801) to teach, with endorsement in science and mathematics. Substitute taught at John Adams Middle School in 7th and 8th grade science (Apr-May, 2008).

1997 - 2003: Following privatization of Explora Science Center, returned to the Water Utility Division (see below 1988 through 1994) as Facility Analyst. Performed many of those same duties and expanded vibration data collection and analysis program. In addition, I performed much of the field testing, since a full time well technician was no longer employed. I retired from this position and am currebtly a member of the Public Employee Retirement Association.

1994 - 1996: Exhibit Coordinator, Explora Science Center, City of Albuquerque Culture & Recreation Department. Exhibit development and maintenance. Presented live science demonstrations to visitors. Management team member activities included facility evaluation and development, and permanent exhibit programming. Worked with PC and Macintosh computer operating systems and developed software presentations for computer kiosks. Wrote a grant application through which we received National Science Foundation funding for exhibit acquisition and on-site development training at the Exploratorium, San Francisco, CA. Liaison for Traveling exhibit purchase and lease contract negotiation. Coordinated contract services including machine shop and welding services, cabinet making, plastic fabrication, electrical and electronics work, facility remodeling, computer programming, and signage.

1992 - 1994: Engineering Assistant, Water Utility Division, City of Albuquerque Public Works Department. Managed well and pump maintenance contracted with Alpha Southwest, Inc. Responsible for testing facility equipment, authorization of required maintenance and fabrication work, specification of equipment, oversight of work quality, acceptance testing of new and maintained facilities, and billing oversight for $250,000 to $300,000 annual contract expenses. I participated in the capital improvement planning, and in new facility design and implementation team activities. Developed and performed data collection and analysis on both PC and Macintosh platforms for Well and Booster Pump Evaluation Unit (WPEU). Supervised one technician who performed well and pump testing.

1988 - 1992: Engineering Assistant, City of Albuquerque Public Works Department, Water Utility Division. Design and implementation of WPEU database and analysis software for well and pump station facilities. Supervised two well technicians in the performance of facility testing and data collection.

Other previous experience includes carpentry, masonry, plumbing, and cabinetmaking.

EDUCATION
2006 - 2007 NM Highlands University: Education Dept. summer courses: introduction to teaching, introduction to special education, and teaching and diagnosis of reading.

1988 – 1994 on-the-job study in groundwater, water well, pumping, storage and distribution systems and in computer database and analysis systems in association with City of Albuquerque Water Utility engineering staff positions.

1988 University of New Mexico: Bachelor of Science, Mechanical Engineering. Post-secondary training beyond that required for the engineering degree includes biology, chemistry, to include quantitative analysis, organic and inorganic chemistry, advanced mathematics, and history of science. Course work required for mechanical engineering includes electrical engineering, statics, dynamics, materials science, thermodynamics, heat transfer, vibration analysis, and fluid (liquid and gas) dynamics.

As a resident of Albuquerque since the age of 5 years, I was educated completely through the Albuquerque Public School System. Band member from 3rd through 12th grades and participated in football, basketball and baseball throughout my years in APS. I also participated in the freshman and varsity football progranms at UNM for two years, and left the sport due to an injury. I attended and graduated from the local Albuquerque Del Norte, McKinley and Bel-Air schools.

PERSONAL QUALITIES
Energetic, self-motivated, even tempered, highly disciplined and focused team player. High interest in the history of science, mathematics, technology and in the evolution of intellectual thought. I have collected a sizable personal library of both primary and secondary sources in the history of science, technology and mathematics. My approach to science and mathematics is from perspectives relating to life, applications, history, context, and the arts. I consider science as one of the humanities and wish to integrate hands-on applications, as well as popular math and science literature and media into the classroom in order to provide a supplementary background and context for required lessons, and as a motivational aid to learning.
